Overview
Tamang Heritage Trek is the most accessible trekking region of Langtang in Nepal. This gives you a chance to experience authentic encounters with the warm and old traditional Tibetan Buddhist culture of the Tamang. This trail passes through Tamang villages with regular views of the Langtang and Ganesh mountain ranges.
Tamang is one of the major ethnic groups of Nepal who have their own culture they originally came from Tibet as horse traders and settled in hilly parts of Nepal several hundred years ago. Trekking to Tamang Heritage Trail helps bring a source of income to the Tamang people in this area.
You can visit Gatlang, Tatopani, Thuman, and Briddim villages on this trek which are the most popular places of this trek. In Tatopani (“hot water” in Nepali) you can take a bath in one of the natural hot springs in the middle of the village. At last, we arrive at Syabrubesi and head to Kathmandu.

- You can observe the beautiful scenery of the Langtang range along with the Ganesh Himal and Gosainkunda range.
- It is one of the oldest Tamang villages and it has its own distinct value due to the unique culture of Tamang. Stay in a local homestay in Briddim, to learn more about the Tamang people and their way of life.
- Get a chance to bathe in the natural hot spring (Tatopani) which can be the best way to remove the skin disease of human beings. It is easy to access from Kathmandu.
- Langtang National Park: The trek passes through Langtang National Park, which is home to diverse wildlife and offers beautiful alpine landscapes.
- Langtang Village: You’ll visit Langtang Village, which was severely affected by the 2015 earthquake. The resilience of the local people and the ongoing rebuilding efforts can be inspiring to witness.
Itinerary
Day 01 Arrival in Kathmandu
Our airport representative will pick you up from the airport and then transfer to the hotel.
Day 02 Drive Kathmandu to Syabrubesi 1460m (7 hours)
We drive to Syabrubesi early in the morning which takes seven-hour drive to the entrance of the Langtang Valley. The way goes through Trishuli and Dhunche with superb panoramic views of the Annapurnas, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and the peaks of the Langtang region. At the end of the day we reach at Syabrubesi.
Day 03 Syabrubesi trek to Gatlang 2240m (5 hours)
Syabrubesi is the common starting point for the Langtang Valley trek as well as the Gosainkund trek. From here, the trail ascends 2 hours for a fantastic view of Ganesh Himal, the Gosainkund range, and the Goljang Valley. From here we descend down to the Goljang Valley (about an hour’s walk) and stop there for lunch and then continue to Gatlang which takes about 5 hours.
Day 04Gatlang to Tatopani 2607m ( 7 hours)
On the next day, we descend down to Thangbuchet, by a lovely river. After lunch, the trail climbs up again, across a hanging bridge and reaches to Tatopani. The town’s name literally means ‘hot water’ in Nepali,where you can enjoy the natural hot springs, with water that comes straight out of the ground. Locals believe that the waters have a healing quality, and it will certainly ease away any aches and pains from your body and we spend a night there.
Day 05Tatopani to Thuman2338m (5 hours)
Today, the trail ascends to Nagthali Danda (3,300 m), high, open grassland with amazing views of the Himalayas. We stop at Brimdang village to take lunch en route, and then continue up to Nagthali Danda. After lunch we walk down to Thuman. It is a huge Tamang village with friendly people who love to sing and dance and you can join with them to take entertainment.
Day 06Thuman to Briddim2230m (4 hours)
Today, the way is straight at beginning and then descends to Timure. It follows part of the old trade route to Tibet, and in fact, Tibet is not far away—just three hours’ walk. After lunch, the trail continues to Briddim, another Tamang village, where you’ll stay in a local home for a truly unique experience. You can observe the unique culture of Tamang while staying a night there.
Day 07Briddim trek to Syabrubesi 1460m (3 hours)
From Briddim, we return back down to Syabrubesi. Have lunch there, and then spend the afternoon relaxing or exploring around Syabrubesi.
Day 08Return back to Kathmandu
Drive back to Kathmandu by bus or Jeep which may take approximately 7 hours.
Day 10Final drop to Airport
We will drop you to the airport for final departure
